Stand4 Gallery and Community Art Center is pleased to present the new video installation, The Lingering Survival of the Unfit, by Stephanie Williams. The exhibition, curated by John Ros, borrows the title of the piece and brings Williams back to the New York City Area after the inclusion of PINOY/PLOY, 2016, in Fictions at The Studio Museum in Harlem, Harlem, NY, in 2017.

The Lingering Survival of the Unfit, will be comprised of four projections, with sound taken from interviews the artist conducted with her mother. “So they leave you alone,” is echoed as the imagery presents a new stop-motion animation heavily influenced by the Bataan Death March of World War II.

The exhibition will be on view from August 25 through October 6, 2018. An artist reception will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, from 7-9 PM. The artist will also present an artist talk about her work on Saturday, September 1, 2018, starting at 3 PM.

Stephanie Williams lives in Washington, DC. She received an MFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and a BFA from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA. Williams currently teaches in the Animation Department at Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD.
