PIECES OF YOURSELF (THERE) is a multisensory and multimodal exhibition told through the eyes, spirit and erased voice of___________. What happens when the black woman’s lineage has been absurdly stolen and rewritten by people other than her ancestors? Other than herself? What happens when the Black woman’s body is gentrified & commodified over time? Where does the Black woman go to experience consistent safety, sacredness, and ease? How does she continue to be magic despite the energy she exerts when she’s incessantly trying to pick up and pull together lost pieces of herself (There).
